How to Play

The first step in playing The Hive is to familiarize yourself with the pieces. There are six different types of bees, each with its own colour: blue, green, orange, purple, red, and yellow. The queen bee is also coloured differently from the other bees.

The game board has six paths leading away from the centre, and each player has 12 pieces (two sets of six). The pieces are placed on the paths according to the following rules:

1)Players must place two pieces on their own side of the board, one in each path. These pieces cannot move until turn 5.

2) One piece must be placed in each path going out from the player's home base (the central hexagon). These pieces can move on the player's turn.

3) Pieces cannot be placed next to an opponent's piece or next to another piece of the same colour.

4) Pieces can only move forward or sideways along the paths. They cannot move backwards or diagonally.

5) If a piece reaches an opponent's home base, it is captured and removed from the board. If a piece reaches an empty space next to the queen bee, it becomes part of the hive and cannot move any further. The winner is either the first player to capture their opponent's queen bee or the player who has more pieces left when time runs out (usually 10 minutes).

To begin playing, both players choose a bee colour and place their two pieces on their side of the board as mentioned earlier. On player's turn they can either move one of their pieces or pick up one of their opponent's pieces and put it back on any unoccupied spot on their side of he board - with some exceptions which will be clarified later on . When you move a piece you can either slide it sideways one space or hop it over another adjacent piece forwards then sideways one space - note that you cannot hop over your own pieces! If you manage to move your piece onto an opponents homebase then your opponent must remove that piece from play - likewise if your opponent moves one of your pieces onto your homebase then they claim its yours! If at any time one side has no more available moves then thats it - that player has lost! Capturing ones Queen Bee also wins you points however therefor making sure she remains well protected! Last but not least any Piece that reaches or goes beyond one end fthe board becomes 'Out Of Play'. So Lets take a look now at some more specific scenarios: 1) One Piece Capture Situation - In this situation Player A would have ta capture Player B's Piece with just 1 movable Piece . Player B couldnt stop Player A capturing tha Piece even if they had 3 Pieces as long as Player A moved tha Piece legally onto Base B ie no jumping over other Pieces . As soon as tha Piece lands ont tha Base , its automatically captured by Player A . This counts as one point . 2) Multiple Pieces Capture Situation - In thi situation both Players have 3 Pieces each . Player A moves 1st & captures Player B's 2nd Piece by moving tha Piece onto Base B & taking over control . As soon as tha Piece lands ont tha Base , its automatically captured by PlayerA & counted as 2 points instead og 1 point like before because 2 Pieces were captured at once .Player B then retaliates &captures 1 og Players A's Pieces by moving it next tto tha existing Piece at Position A3 on Board .. As soon as tha new Piece touches down at Position A3 , it becomes part og tha Hive &cannotmove againe unless turned into a QueenBeeLateron .. This last captured Point for Player B would count as just 1 point . 3) Stealin / Swapping Situation - In thi situation both Players have 3Pieces eash .PlayerA moves 1st & captures PlayaB ' s 2nd Piecetby movingitontopofBaseB&takingovercontrolasa describedbefore ..
